What Helps a Commodity Trading Advisor to Succeed?
One of the keys of success for a commodity trading advisor is a trusted relationship with his commodity broker. The commodity trading advisor needs a commodity broker that will work orders for him. Not simply just buy the highs or lows visa vee an automated mechanical system. Monroe Trout one of the commodity trading advisors written about in Market Wizards book that stated a great deal of his success was based on minimizing slippage and getting superior fills.
As I am a commodity trading advisor… I will give you a first hand example. Yesterday I had an order to buy Cotton…Cotton took off and even before we updated our data last night from CSI. Cotton was above my buy stop….We agreed to work the buy..We were filled later on…and as usual in commodity trading… The buy stop was hit and then closed down. Some beginners would be sick to their stomachs… but this is a daily reality…(If you want to succeed in commodity trading expect this kind of thing). I go with the assumption that the trade will not work. No one promised it has too..but I am surprised when the trades really work.. Some times I say to partners.. Can you believe that x commodity did that… ( then I catch myself).
I am lucky to have my partner who I have known for more than 15 years who executes my trades. If you want to succeed in commodity trading… you must have a commodity broker you trust and works hard for your success.

Futures trading involves risk. People can and do lose money

My name in Andrew Abraham. I have been investing in commodities and managed futures since 1994. I am a commodity trading advisor/co manager of a commodity pool who adheres to the philosophy of trend following.
Trend following stresses a disciplined approach to commodity/ futures trading. Successful trend following and commodity futures investing requires patience, discipline and actively managing the risk. What sets us apart from other Commodity trading advisors and commodity pools is that we are not only concerned about the return on investment but how much risk you will have to tolerate to achieve your goals.

Nice thought. I like the way you gave the cotton as example and the notion of the success of commodity trading lies within the commodity broker himself.
