The China Bubble to Felt Around the World
Last summer I visited China for 3 weeks. I went from city to city and went from shock to total bewilderment. What I saw were building after building being built yet whole buildings were vacant. To phrase it another way, vacant building after vacant building sitting empty. I had seen this earlier in Bulgaria in 2006 before the US housing market crash. I saw whole cities built in Bulgaria in which builders ( mostly Irish builders) thought they would sell to UK vacationers. This type of investing has left Ireland virtually bankrupt.
China is a much more serious issue. As a trend following commodity trading advisor I do not predict but human nature is the same all around the world. When ( not if) the Chinese real estate market turns the whole world will feel it. Economies such as Australia and Brazil are based on supplying commodities to China. The price of raw land has seen rampant speculation. In some cities prices have not doubled or tripled but seven to eight times in several short years. I met people that instead of banking their assets bought numerous apartments. They told me the prices have to only go up. My reaction was they need to learn market history and just look at the Japanese real estate market ( and stock market) that has been going down since 1989.
A smart investor is one that does not have an opinion, invests in liquid and transparent ways. The China Bubble will probably create tremendous opportunities for trend following commodity traders. Since 1994 I have been investing in commodities and see the writing on the wall for China. I have no idea of when China might burst but many astute investors see the writing on the wall such Jim Chanos.

Futures trading involves risk. People can and do lose money

My name in Andrew Abraham. I have been investing in commodities and managed futures since 1994. I adhere to the philosophy of trend following.
Trend following stresses a disciplined approach to commodity/ futures trading. Successful trend following and commodity futures investing requires patience, discipline and actively managing the risk. What sets me apart from other traders is that I am not only concerned about the return on investment but how much risk I will have to tolerate to achieve my goals.
