What is your time frame in Trend following
When asked what is my time frame in trend following I always seem to get the same look. My answer is 30 to 40 years. Most do not understand my answer. My answer is based on the concept of compounding my way to wealth. When trend following with a plan my analogy is a marathon. I know I will make my money over a long period of time. No trade means anything. That means winning trades or losing trades. I follow the exact plan as set out by myself and my partners and we have the patience to see it work out over time. Trend following is not a get rich quick scheme. Trend following is having no opinions…no predictions…just getting signals based on price and seeing if they work or not. I have been trading commodities since 1994 and have seen the results.
Most traders fail in trend following because of false expectations. I have seen so many times investors will allocate to a commodity trading advisor who is a trend follower and quit at the first draw down. Even worse than the draw downs are the durations of the draw downs..( such as we are seeing now). Most trend followers have not seen a new equity peak for 25 months. This would distract most investors however to me this is most encouraging. Buy the draw downs of long term successful CTAs. Do not quit trading your program if you have tested it & it has strong risk management aspects. Most of the time nothing happens in commodity trading and only rarely do we have nice trends to follow. However these winners more than make up for the losers. No other strategy lets you have the liquidity that managed futures has. You can liquidate your entire portfolio in minutes. Try doing that with real estate.
Follow the trend …have a plan… manage the risk… have discipline and patience to let the plan work out over time

Futures trading involves risk. People can and do lose money

My name in Andrew Abraham. I have been investing in commodities and managed futures since 1994. I adhere to the philosophy of trend following.
Trend following stresses a disciplined approach to commodity/ futures trading. Successful trend following and commodity futures investing requires patience, discipline and actively managing the risk. What sets me apart from other traders is that I am not only concerned about the return on investment but how much risk I will have to tolerate to achieve my goals.
