Andrew Abraham

andy-0101 My name in Andrew Abraham. I have been investing in commodities and managed futures since 1994. I adhere to the philosophy of trend following. Trend following stresses a disciplined approach to commodity/ futures trading. Successful trend following and commodity futures investing requires patience, discipline and actively managing the risk. What sets me apart from other traders is that I am not only concerned about the return on investment but how much risk I will have to tolerate to achieve my goals.

The Myth of the Trend Following Expert

In most fields the number of people who really understand what’s going on is very limited. This is even more pronounced with commodity trading advisors and trend followers. True experts have an exact plan as well as rules. There is nothing left to think about. There are many that look at what the true experts are doing and try to copy it. A true trend following or commodity trading expert will be able to explain complicated ideas in ways that are clear and easy to understand. For example one idea I present to people is that trend following is simply a numbers game. They are shocked to learned that when I explain to them that most of my trades do not work I still make money. Another example is that I express is that really only 4 things can happen… Big losses ( which I prevent with immediate stops..even though they can gap through)..Small losses…Big profits ( very rare times but they happen like in Cotton, Sugar and Silver currently) and Small profits. The reality is the small losses & profits negate each other on average and I seem to stumble into some big trades just by making available.

Bottom Line

Don’t confuse experience with expertise or knowledge with wisdom.
Trend following has been my life time strategy enabling me to compound my money over time. It is not “Retirement in a Box” Every day I work on myself. I work on my discipline and patience. These are one of the most important attributes of success in trend following.
