Trend following stresses a disciplined approach to commodity/ futures trading. Successful trend following and commodity futures investing requires patience, discipline and actively managing the risk. What sets me apart from other traders is that I am not only concerned about the return on investment but how much risk I will have to tolerate to achieve my goals.

Why are you trading commodities?

Really why are you trading commodities or want to start trading commodities? Ed Seykota stated that “Everyone gets out of the markets what they are seeking”. Some want excitement, some want to gamble, some are bored and yes…some want to compound their way to wealth like me( over many long years with periods of draw downs and no positive returns included). I have pretty much heard it all ranging from want to find a new line of work to I am bored. The commodities markets are not forgiving. Money can be lost so quickly. In order to trend follow or trade commodities a true commitment is in order. One must be committed, patient and disciplined. If someone has these virtues they are on the right track. Add in a robust trend following methodology that has not been optimized that is simple in nature with strong money management & risk filters and you stand the potential of reaching your financial goals. None of us know the future and past returns are not 100% indications of future returns however we put the odds in our favor when we have the proper mindset and a tried and tested trend following methodology.

The key is having no opinions on any market and realizing that anything can happen. Due to these issues, stops and money management are the key to long term survival. I know why I am trend following and trading commodities. This is my passion and my way to provide for my family. It is not easy and there are times that are just plain ugly. However out of these ugly periods always seem to come new equity peaks and new trends.

Futures trading involves risk. People can and do lose money
