Andrew Abraham

andy-0101 My name in Andrew Abraham. I have been investing in commodities and managed futures since 1994. I adhere to the philosophy of trend following. Trend following stresses a disciplined approach to commodity/ futures trading. Successful trend following and commodity futures investing requires patience, discipline and actively managing the risk. What sets me apart from other traders is that I am not only concerned about the return on investment but how much risk I will have to tolerate to achieve my goals.

The Reasons for Trend Following

I have been a trend follower running automated programs over baskets of numerous markets as well as allocated to commodity trading advisors for 17 years. For me the answer is simple, compound money over long periods of time. My solution is the surly not the only solution, but I do know that it has benefited me personally over many years. I do not know another strategy as liquid or transparent. I remain confident that adhering to this strategy will continue to work well, regardless of the market conditions. While there are no guarantees where the future is concerned, I do believe that my plan puts the odds of success in my favor.

Albert Einstein called the power of compounding “the greatest mathematical discovery of all time” and deemed it to be the eighth wonder of the world. Trend following is simple but it is not easy. There are always draw downs and one need to be mentally prepared.

I learned first hand that compounding money is a powerful recipe for building wealth. My goal has been to create an upward sloping equity curves which enables me to compound wealth over time. The idea has been & continues to be what will $100,000 or $1,000,000 look like in 10 years or 15 years. 15% Compounded rates of return make $100,000 grow to approx $400,000 and in 15 years $800,000. I have allocated to experienced trend following commodity trading advisors that understand risk that have achieved this CAR over time. I do not allocate more than 2-3% of my trading capital to any commodity trading advisor or even to any our own trading methodologies.

The reality is when you invest in a trend following strategy the following occur.

•You will have a plan that is thought out with all possible outcomes ahead of time.

• You will be invested in areas that offer profitable opportunities because they are trending. The basis of our trend following programs is to buy the strongest markets if we can put on a low risk trade and sell the weakest markets if we can put on a low risk trade.

• You will avoid large losses by being on the wrong side of major trends – for example: dot.com bubble in 2000, real estate in 2006, stocks in 2008, etc. Currently even avoid the US Stock market decline so far.

• It is common sense that trading with the trend, cutting losses, and letting your profits run is the way to compound money over time. The problem is everyone loves to predict and try to call markets. I learned along time ago that anything can happen and that there are no gurus. The most successful investors are trend followers and they do not have opinions. They let the market tell them how to place their trades.

Most people do not know if they should be invested in stocks, bonds, real estate, gold, commodities, or any of the other alternative investment vehicles. The idea of trend following with a thought out plan based on risk & money management the confusion subsides.
