Andrew Abraham

andy-0101 My name in Andrew Abraham. I have been investing in commodities and managed futures since 1994. I adhere to the philosophy of trend following. Trend following stresses a disciplined approach to commodity/ futures trading. Successful trend following and commodity futures investing requires patience, discipline and actively managing the risk. What sets me apart from other traders is that I am not only concerned about the return on investment but how much risk I will have to tolerate to achieve my goals.

Accurate Perceptions about Trend Following & Commodity trading

It is essential to maintain an accurate perception of reality regarding trend following and about compounding your way to wealth. This accurate perception of reality is that most of the time you do not make money and you will encounter draw downs. The correct posture is to stay out of trouble until trends appear and then look to maximize these trends. There are many obstacles and adversity that you face & these will present challenges. Building an equity curve and compounding money takes a great deal of time and effort, and is analogous to running a marathon. Longevity is truly the key. Trend following itself is simple to understand but the psychological issues & executing the plan are not be easy to do.

Even many of the most seasoned investors have problems keeping to their plan (even if they have one).

The question one needs to ask themselves why we are they investing in a trend following strategy and what is the ultimate goal? My answer is trend following offers liquidity & transparency that most other strategies do not offer.

My goal is to grow my account and what keeps me in the game is the question what will be my account be worth in 10 years from now? Is it 3 times as much…or is it 5 times or even greater? Compare this to the stock market, which for a rolling 10 years has done nothing. Compare this to some commodity trading advisors that have the 3 elements needed for success, (robust system, risk management in place and proper trading mindset) they have achieved these goals and some even done better. As an investor you have a choice, the analogy I like to refer to is ,you can fly the plane yourself( given the fact that you have spent years in flight school) or you can allocate to someone who understands trend following and has the ability, skill and knowledge to try to assist you in your compounding your money over time. I actually do both, I allocate to groups of Commodity trading advisors that understand risk as well as have several trend following models in which I work with my colleagues which I have been trading for almost 17 years. After seeing and making numerous mistakes in the trend following methodology we added risk filters that try to minimize some of the eventual draw downs.

In order to succeed an accurate perception of trend following & commodity trading is needed otherwise it is pointless to start.

Past performance is not indicative of future performance
Futures trading involves risk. People can and do lose money
