Andrew Abraham

andy-0101 My name in Andrew Abraham. I have been investing in commodities and managed futures since 1994. I adhere to the philosophy of trend following. Trend following stresses a disciplined approach to commodity/ futures trading. Successful trend following and commodity futures investing requires patience, discipline and actively managing the risk. What sets me apart from other traders is that I am not only concerned about the return on investment but how much risk I will have to tolerate to achieve my goals.

Having Too Much Money to Trade

Clearly one needs money in order to enter the field of commodity trading. However what I have personally seen is having too much money or lack of respect of the market, can lead to financial disaster. When one has too much capital they are not fully aware of the loses or the risks they face. They feel this capital is almost a cushion against sound judgement. With too much capital I have seen commodity traders be too arrogant to take a loss. These small loses compounded into huge losses. These traders with too much capital do not trade with a plan based on risk.

One needs to realize that the market is always right. We as commodity traders do not know the future. Smart commodity traders realize they must trade with a thought out plan full of risk management. Smart commodity traders think in terms of percentages not Dollars or Euros.

Percentage risk per trade…Percentage risk per sector..Percentage risk for the entire portfolio.

Having too much money can make a commodity trader sloppy because they feel they can fall back on their wealth to save them. This is dangerous to ones financial health. All too many commodity traders through out history have blown up when they tried to corner this market or that market. Nothing ever changes…we always will have fear and greed.
