Andrew Abraham

andy-0101 My name in Andrew Abraham. I have been investing in commodities and managed futures since 1994. I adhere to the philosophy of trend following. Trend following stresses a disciplined approach to commodity/ futures trading. Successful trend following and commodity futures investing requires patience, discipline and actively managing the risk. What sets me apart from other traders is that I am not only concerned about the return on investment but how much risk I will have to tolerate to achieve my goals.

If Trend Following & Trading for a Living is so Easy Why Isn’t Everyone Making Money?

The basic tenants of Trend following are very simplistic in nature. Do not confuse simple with easy or profitable. I utilize a robust yet simple trend following breakout idea and trend retracement in my trading. Again, do not confuse simple with easy or profitable. Trend following is not EASY. I am enclosing a simple example. I had a Buy stop on Sugar the other day. Almost immediately the trade stopped working. I followed all the rules of my methodology. I bought one of the strongest via a smoothed rate of change. I risked less than 1% of my total core equity size on the trade. I did not have any other allocation to the softs sector. I did not have more than 20% open trade equity versus my core equity. I was not over my margin to equity level. I did not risk more than $2500 a contract…etc…
Basically I followed my plan and guess what, the trade is not working & I am losing money. Welcome to the reality of trend following. No trade has to work. Every trade is uncertain. The only certainty is uncertainty. This is why trend following is so hard. I follow my rules and lose money! Wow..how can that be? It is because I do not have a crystal ball. I do not know the future. All I can do is try to take small low risk trades and see what happens.

You will find a zillion people on the internet promising instant riches and success. The reality is that this is instant riches for the system seller or so called teacher. Trend following success can only be achieved over time with a proper mindset & a robust trading plan and heavy risk management. Even with this said profits can be elusive and hard to generate. Wouldn’t you prefer to hear the truth rather than having a sad surprise?

Trends like the below do not happen all the time, however when they do you stand the potential to make up for all of those small loses.

I want my students to know what to expect. I am not promising anything other than the truth. Most trades will not work. You will take numerous small losses however you put yourself in a position to benefit over time. You never know what trade will work .You have to take every trade as hard as it is. You need to distant yourself from just looking at the money. You need to follow the plan. You need to believe in the plan.

I am here to help you. I am a little delayed getting the course and manual to teach up and running due to two investment conferences I attended this week and last. My course and webinars are not the Holy Grail as it does not exist. You will learn how to think like a trend follower as well as I will give you the exact methodologies in which I trade. If you want to learn how to trade for a living, I invite you to be one of my students.

PAST PERFORMANCE IS NOT NECESSARILY INDICATIVE OF FUTURE RESULTS. THE RISK OF LOSS IN TRADING COMMODITY FUTURES, OPTIONS, AND FOREIGN EXCHANGE (“FOREX”) IS SUBSTANTIAL.

HYPOTHETICAL PERFORMANCE RESULTS HAVE MANY INHERENT LIMITATIONS, SOME OF WHICH ARE DESCRIBED BELOW. NO REPRESENTATION IS BEING MADE THAT ANY ACCOUNT WILL OR IS LIKELY TO ACHIEVE PROFITS OR LOSSES SIMILAR TO THOSE SHOWN. IN FACT, THERE ARE FREQUENTLY SHARP DIFFERENCES BETWEEN HYPOTHETICAL PERFORMANCE RESULTS AND THE ACTUAL RESULTS SUBSEQUENTLY ACHIEVED BY ANY PARTICULAR TRADING PROGRAM. ONE OF THE LIMITATIONS OF HYPOTHETICAL PERFORMANCE RESULTS IS THAT THEY ARE GENERALLY PREPARED WITH THE BENEFIT OF HINDSIGHT. IN ADDITION, HYPOTHETICAL TRADING DOES NOT INVOLVE FINANCIAL RISK, AND NO HYPOTHETICAL TRADING RECORD CAN COMPLETELY ACCOUNT FOR THE IMPACT OF FINANCIAL RISK IN ACTUAL TRADING. FOR EXAMPLE, THE ABILITY TO WITHSTAND LOSSES OR TO ADHERE TO A PARTICULAR TRADING PROGRAM IN SPITE OF TRADING LOSSES ARE MATERIAL POINTS WHICH CAN ALSO ADVERSELY AFFECT ACTUAL TRADING RESULTS. THERE ARE NUMEROUS OTHER FACTORS RELATED TO THE MARKETS IN GENERAL OR TO THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ANY SPECIFIC TRADING PROGRAM WHICH CANNOT BE FULLY ACCOUNTED FOR IN THE PREPARATION OF HYPOTHETICAL PERFORMANCE RESULTS AND ALL OF WHICH CAN ADVERSELY AFFECT ACTUAL TRADING RESULTS
