Andrew Abraham

andy-0101 My name in Andrew Abraham. I have been investing in commodities and managed futures since 1994. I adhere to the philosophy of trend following. Trend following stresses a disciplined approach to commodity/ futures trading. Successful trend following and commodity futures investing requires patience, discipline and actively managing the risk. What sets me apart from other traders is that I am not only concerned about the return on investment but how much risk I will have to tolerate to achieve my goals.

Trading Systems and the Secret Sauce for Trend Following

Since announcing that I will be teaching my trend following methods I use, I have been in touch with many aspiring traders. The bottom line among them is that they do not take risk into consideration. After discussions and after they have gone through brutal draw downs they are coming to grips with the importance of risk filters. I must admit, It took me a long time to really get it.

In all reality we as trend followers and actually all traders only make money when there are trends. In the interim when trends are not present our job is too try to not lose too much money. This is reason for risk. Many that start trading and trend following do not realize how brutal the markets can be. Yes there are good trends now and then such as cattle and natural gas, but what is more prevalent are whipsaw trades and false breakouts.

Instead of focusing or searching for that elusive Holy Grail or “Secret Sauce” look at how you are going to attempt to control the inherent risks while trading and trend following. I focus very strongly on these issues and I still have losses and draw downs. Losses and draw downs are not avoidable unless you are Bernie Madoff.

Consider:
Risk per trade
Risk per sector
Risk on your total portfolio
$Risk per share or $ risk per contract
Margin to Equity constraints

You have 2 choices; you can do what I did and work for 18 years trying to learn to develop a consistent money making strategy or you can read my material, having me available to help you and skip the almost 2 decades of a learning curve that I did.

You will learn how to think like a trend follower. If you want to learn how to trade for a living, I invite you to be one of my students.

PAST PERFORMANCE IS NOT NECESSARILY INDICATIVE OF FUTURE RESULTS. THE RISK OF LOSS IN TRADING COMMODITY FUTURES, OPTIONS, AND FOREIGN EXCHANGE (“FOREX”) IS SUBSTANTIAL.

HYPOTHETICAL PERFORMANCE RESULTS HAVE MANY INHERENT LIMITATIONS, SOME OF WHICH ARE DESCRIBED BELOW. NO REPRESENTATION IS BEING MADE THAT ANY ACCOUNT WILL OR IS LIKELY TO ACHIEVE PROFITS OR LOSSES SIMILAR TO THOSE SHOWN. IN FACT, THERE ARE FREQUENTLY SHARP DIFFERENCES BETWEEN HYPOTHETICAL PERFORMANCE RESULTS AND THE ACTUAL RESULTS SUBSEQUENTLY ACHIEVED BY ANY PARTICULAR TRADING PROGRAM. ONE OF THE LIMITATIONS OF HYPOTHETICAL PERFORMANCE RESULTS IS THAT THEY ARE GENERALLY PREPARED WITH THE BENEFIT OF HINDSIGHT. IN ADDITION, HYPOTHETICAL TRADING DOES NOT INVOLVE FINANCIAL RISK, AND NO HYPOTHETICAL TRADING RECORD CAN COMPLETELY ACCOUNT FOR THE IMPACT OF FINANCIAL RISK IN ACTUAL TRADING. FOR EXAMPLE, THE ABILITY TO WITHSTAND LOSSES OR TO ADHERE TO A PARTICULAR TRADING PROGRAM IN SPITE OF TRADING LOSSES ARE MATERIAL POINTS WHICH CAN ALSO ADVERSELY AFFECT ACTUAL TRADING RESULTS. THERE ARE NUMEROUS OTHER FACTORS RELATED TO THE MARKETS IN GENERAL OR TO THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ANY SPECIFIC TRADING PROGRAM WHICH CANNOT BE FULLY ACCOUNTED FOR IN THE PREPARATION OF HYPOTHETICAL PERFORMANCE RESULTS AND ALL OF WHICH CAN ADVERSELY AFFECT ACTUAL TRADING RESULTS
